I’m not sure whether to feel swindled or elated, but at least I have a story to share:
I rarely drive in Vancouver. More than a financial decision, I’m just not really into the car thing. When I come home to Whitby for the holidays, I am forced to rely on the car. Which is totally fine, I’m a competent driver and heated seats are kind of the best in this weather.
Driving is the only time I listen to the radio for extended periods. Almost all radio is unlistenable. The rap stations only play Flo-rida, Drake, and the occasional Kardi throwback. The “new rock/alternative” station I woke up to as a kid has morphed into a post-grunge/pop-punk/MGMT thing. I’m not around long enough to figure out when good programming takes place on the college stations. The radio spectrum around here is too saturated to fuck with an FM-transmitter/iPod rig.
After cycling through stations, last winter I found CBC2/Rich Terfry and his afternoon RADIO 2 DRIVE show. Holy shit, does this guy have radio on lockdown. He is equal parts awkward college radio, and savvy veteran DJ; “Boom goes the dynamite!” meets “Touch ‘em all, Joe!” The playlist is totally listenable, and I rarely hear the same song twice.
…and then I googled him and found out Rich Terfry is better known as Buck 65. Einhorn is Finkle, Finkle is Einhorn.
